Policy on Time Allocation for NYSBC Electron Microscopy Facilities

  • For each month, each Member Institution is entitled to a share of the resources proportional to its current capital investment

  • The Member Institution’s representative on the CEM Operations Committee to arbitrate allocation of time amongst relevant users.

  • Time allocation is calculated from the following
    • available instrument time during regular working hours
    • staff support time including training and consultation
    • Instruments may be weighted according to demand

  • For the near future, shifts outside working hours available to those with 24-hours CEM approval, and not charged to the allocation

  • Downtime will not be charged to the allocation.
    • Users must immediately identify instrument failure.
    • Downtime does not include sample failure issues
