Characterization of organelles in identified cells in the nematode, C. elegans

  • Brief description: We hope to use electron tomography to extend our reach to recognize finer details of ultrastructure in any cell type. We have begun principally with wild type adult hermaphrodites, while we determine the parameters for best fixation, staining, and sectioning. As we progress in identifying organelles of interest, we will try to characterize the fine details of interesting organelles in several cell types, and then explore for possible changes in their structural organization in selected mutants that are known to affect a specific cell type.

3D mitochondria reconstruction in adrenoleukodystrophy mouse models

  • Brief Description: Adrenoleukodystrophy is a rare neurodegenerative disorder affecting brain and spinal cords, characterized by accumulation of very-long chain fatty acids and oxidative stress. We would like to measure mitochondria morphological parameters, such as mitochondrial mass, size and number of cristae of X-Ald mice compared to controls.

Quantification of the total number of synapses in different sub-compartments of layer 4C of macaque primary visual cortex

  • Brief Description: An accurate determination of the total number of synapses in layer 4C of macaque is essential to estimate the proportion of dLGN synapses in the monkey, as layer 4C is the principal recipient layer of thalamic afferent in the visual cortex. The aim of this work is to quantify the total number of synapses into the different compartments of layer 4C of macaque primary visual cortex.

Interaction of macrophages with agLDL

Structural studies of microsporidi
