TECHNOLOGY / INVENTION DISCLOSURE FORM

If you used a pro-microinjection technique to create a transgenic animal, please check this box. __

If your technology includes all or in any part materials obtained from another institution or company, or resulted from research using such materials, please check this box. __

Introduction

. It is important that you submit your technologies promptly for evaluation. Intellectual property may be lost if there is a public disclosure (through written publication oral presentation or other non-confidential disclosure) before a patent application can be prepared and filed.

This form is intended as an aid in making an initial disclosure to the Center. More information may be required at a later date, but this form will serve to begin the evaluation process. Not all the information requested may be immediately or readily available. Please complete what portions you can and return to the Executive Officer. Ir is suggested you print this page as a face page and then attach your numbered responses by standard word processing.

  1. Short description of the technology
    • multi-channel microdialysis device designed for screening crystallization. 96-well format makes this device suitable for interface with liquid-handling robot and, thus, high-throughput screening protocols
  2. Detailed written description: Do you have a more detailed description of the technology available, such as a draft abstract, manuscript, photograph, charts, etc.? If so, please attach.
  3. Utility of the technology: Please describe the uses to which you believe the technology could be put. Indicate any commercial use or value of which you a re aware. Please address
    1. Strength of the new invention compare to alternatives or competitors
      • One commercially available device allows dialysis of a single buffer against 96 different samples and is disposable (96-Well DispoDialyzer?). Our device allows 96 samples to be dialysed against 96 different buffers and is reusable.
      • A second commercially available device allows equilibrium dialysis of 96 samples against 96 different buffers, but this device is only for small volumes and does not allow for complete buffer exchange or detergent removal (e.g. HTDialysis LLC: Reusable 96-well Micro-Equilibrium Dialysis Device HTD 96).
    2. Is the invention ready for commercialization? If not, what are other enabling inventions?
      • yes. Currently working with machinist to finalize design for CNC machining
    3. What is the likelihood that the invention will become obsolete before it could be commercialized
      • Good
    4. Please comment on the general importance of the surrounding field of the invention.
      • Device designed for screening conditions for crystallization of membrane proteins, which is subject of major funding initiative by the NIH. Other applications in protein purification in the fields of structural biology and chemical biology
  4. Are you continuing research on the technology?
    • Yes. High troughput screen for 2D crystallization of membrane proteins is currently funded by NIH grant
  5. Presentation or publications plans: Have you submitted or do you plan to submit any report, abstract, or other written description of this technology, or do you plan to make a presentation at any public meeting, conference or other open discussion? If so, please give details:
    • published paper describing the device and its performance (see above)
  6. Please list any publications, patents applications or other references of which you are aware that may bear upon this technology:
    • see above publication and references therein
  7. Please list all sources of funding, whether Center, Consortium member, government, charitable or commercial, that were involved in the work leading to the technology. Indicate federal grant or contract number, if available:
    • NIH grant: R01 GM081817
  8. Have you had any contact with or know of any company that might be a potential partner to develop and commercialize this technology?
    • no
