CEM microscope training sessions

Open Training Days are microscope training sessions required before you may sign up for microscope time. Signup on CemRequests page requesting training and below.

CEM staff will hold a training/re-training session each month rotating on the J2100 and F20 see the CemMicroscopeSchedule. This training session will cover several topics including: basic alignments, holder insertion and retraction, cryo holder care, setting up low dose and common quirks of the user interface

User levels

Regular - Allowed to request microscope use during normal days

Independent - Allowed to request microscope use during project days and limit staff days

24h - Allowed to request microscope use 24/7, weekends and holidays.

    • Hands-on tutorial for daily alignments done by staff
    • 120kV vs 200kV alignments

  • Sample holder insertion/retraction
    • User will practice insertion and retraction
  • iMDS / low dose use
    • User will practice finding eucentric height, finding focus and correcting for astigmatism
