JEOL 1230

The JEOL 1230 is mainly used as a screening microscope. It has a tungsten filament and a side entry Erlangshen Gatan camera mounted at the 35mm port. The accelerating voltage is usually set at 80kV, but it can be easily aligned for use at 120kV. The instrument is equipped with Gatan anticontaminator blades, in addition to the normal anticontaminator provided by the factory, therefore study of cryo specimens is possible, in principle.

In addition, this microscope has a custom-made cartesian robot for automatic loading of specimens, which together with an implementation of Leginon, allows for the screening of up to 96 negatively stained specimens per run.
