Visitors - We welcome everyone at the public seminars and meetings at NYSBC.

Those formally affiliated with the Center are welcome during all working hours. However, we do not permit visitors who are not affiliates into the controlled areas, which are at BSL-2 (Bio Safety Lab level -2), of the building other than when they are escorted by NYSBC staff. Please advise us in advance of your needs to bring in visitors. This rule is needed because of
  1. the impossibility of having trained staff safely supervising visitors other than by escorting them,
  2. some unusual hazards (especially the fringe fields),
  3. the size and complexity of the building in the case of required evacuation (e.g. for fire)
  4. need for security in a BSL2 facility

Becoming an NYSBC affiliate.

All users of the Center's resources must become affiliated with NYSBC. NYSBC staff will normally facilitate this for users. All affiliates require Affiliation Endorsement from their Institution's representative(s) on NYSBC's scientific committee. This affiliations is required for identification purposes and for allocation of resources for those facilities which are in heavy demand.

  • Faculty of the Member Institutions should inquire of their Departmental Chairs, or Deans to become affiliated Faculty. For further information, they may wish to consult their Institution's representative(s) on NYSBC's scientific committee, who can supply Affiliation Endorsement.
  • Postdoctoral Associates should inquire of their Principal Investigator and with their approval have a member of NYSBC's scientific committee supply Affiliation Endorsement.
  • Graduate Students of the Member Institutions should inquire of their Research Director, or Dean of Students. Graduate Students will need to have a member of NYSBC's scientific committee supply an Affiliation Endorsement
  • Undergraduates of the Member Institutions should associate themselves with faculty research programs in their Member Institution, and then inquire of their Research Director.

Because of limitations of resources and personnel, most uses of the instruments at the Center are allocated by the Member Institutions' own faculty representative to the Scientific Committee of NYSBC.

For information on your Scientific Committee or Board members, please contact mailto:office@nysbc.org

All Hours Use

Please be reminded that ONLY users with all-hours privilege will be able to enter the NYSBC Park building outside working hours, which include ALL FEDERAL holidays and weekends. There are currently 58 authorized users with all-hours privilege, and we are willing to provide the needed training as rapidly as practical. You can find the details in AllHours . NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE CHANGES IN ACCESS RESULTING FROM CUNY SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS, AND YOU SHOULD CHECK NysbcLocation frequently.

Visitor/ staff/ affiliates with physical disabilities

NYSBC will make all reasonable attempts to accommodate those with physical disabilities. However, because of the size of the building and potential difficulties in fringe magnetic fields, we ask that all those interested contact us in advance of their visit.

Laboratory Access

All visitors to laboratories must be accompanied by an NYSBC employee at all times. Affiliates, after training, have access to laboratories.

Barred from Magnet Areas

  1. Any one with a magnetizable metallic implant or prosthesis
  2. Any one with a pace maker, unless they have their physician's written approval, with a copy provided to NYSBC.

Children

Children (for this purpose, anyone under 18) are not normally permitted as visitors into the building. In special circumstances, they may visit by permission of an Executive, and escorted by the Executive.

Visitors -- We welcome everyone at the public seminars and meetings at NYSBC.

Those formally affiliated with the Center are welcome during all working hours. However, we do not permit visitors who are not affiliates into the controlled areas of the building other than when they are escorted by NYSBC staff. Please advise us in advance of your needs to bring in visitors. This rule is needed because of
  1. the impossibility of having trained staff safely supervising visitors other than by escorting them,
  2. some unusual hazards (especially the fringe fields), and
  3. the size and complexity of the building in the case of required evacuation (e.g. for fire).

However, we do not permit visitors who are not affiliates into the controlled areas of the building other than when they are escorted by NYSBC staff. Please advise us in advance of your needs to bring in visitors. This rule is needed because of

  1. the impossibility of having trained staff safely supervising visitors other than by escorting them,
  2. some unusual hazards (especially the fringe fields), and
  3. the size and complexity of the building in the case of required evacuation (e.g. for fire).
