New User registration:

If you have a new project that would benefit from the facilities at NYSBC, you should first discuss your project with CryoEM staff and/or your representative on the Scientific Committee

Then follow these three steps:

1. Become officially affiliated with NYSBC, which will is required for your use of the instruments and will make you eligible for an ID card, for computer accounts and for access to our equipment signups. To become affiliated, follow the instructions at How To?. During a subsequent visit, the CEM staff may then issue a photo-ID card that will grant you access to the Center and

 2. Register Your Project by completing the form on our web site. Email the completed form to CryoEM staff and to your representative on the ScicomcemGroup

4. To obtain 24-hour access you will have to obtain a [[http://www.nysbc.net/procedures/C14][C14 OPERATIONS OF A CHEMISTRY LABORATORY CERTIFICATE OF FITNESS]]. After presenting this certificate, you will be specifically trained for 24-hour access by one of the NYSBC staff and you ID card will be modified to allow access to relevant equipment.


Equipment Sign-up:

Instrument signup can be accomplished through our web-based Scheduler. After obtaining training on a given instrument, you will be authorized to sign up for its use.

Electron Microscope Time Allocation

Although individual users can indicate preference for particular time slots, instrument signup must be finally approved by CEM staff.

  • On each Monday at 12:00 pm, the schedule is opened for the following week.
  • On Wednesday, CEM staff approve individual user signups for the following week.
  • Current time allocation corresponds to 2 daytime slots per user per two week period.
  • These two slots may be used in the same week, but then no slots will be available for the following week
  • Users approved for 24-hour access can signup for an unlimited number of nighttime and weekend sessions.
  • Any unclaimed sessions become available on a first-come-first-served basis beginning Wednesday for the following week
