Boris attended the BRUKER USER MEETING held in New York City on 28th and 29th October 2004

His comments:

1. Topspin output capabilities.

Topspin seems to have more diverse and powerful output capabilities than Xwinnmr Suite.

a. It's possible to print an active window directly.

b. It's possible to print spectrum to an ascii file with command. The output file is a single column of intensities with a header on top that contains left and right spectral window limits and number of points.

c. AU commands and output fid as an ascii file.

d. It is possible to export spectra in a huge variety of formats such as jpeg, emf (Windows only), epsi (LINUX only), bitmap, etc...

e. It is possible to email spectra, data sets, etc directly.

2. New Automation techniques.

3. Henry Lurhs gave a wonderful talk about possible artifacts in the spectra, reasons of their appearance and ways of troubleshooting and fixing them. He promised to email his notes to me, so I'll just wait for them to come in and forward them to you once I receive them. The brief list of possible artifacts is:

  1. Spinning sidebands spikes

b. Q-modulation

c. Rolling baseline

d. Hump in a baseline

e. Spikes from 2H lock (every 6.66kHz)

f. Quad image

g. O1P glitch

  1. floor vibrations

j. DVT heater damage

k. glass shield vibrations/misplacement

l. bad helium valve

m. bad loop parameters on BSMS

4. Clemence Anklin - random notes

  1. There is a pulse program catalogue in NMR Guide and Topspin with a full listing and a brief description of pulse programs.

b. If you have an #iifdef loop condition statement in pulse program, you can define condition variable using "zg -Dvariable" or "set ZGOPTNS -Dvariable" commands.

c. There are data set lists.

d. There are power amplitude lists (measuring power in linear % instead of dB units)

I do agree with some of the good features of Topspin. My concern is it get very slow and doing to many thing simultaneously makes it slower or sometimes it freezes!!!

I did notice the "zg -Dvariable" command but I am still not very sure how to use it.
