Shipping SamplesNYSBC Guide for Sending, Storing and Handling SamplesGENERALNYSBC resources are housed at
KNOWN OR POTENTIAL HAZARDSResearchers are responsible for providing a detailed description of samples that contain known toxic or poisonous substances well in advance of their arrival at the facility in order to allow us time to evaluate whether we have the capability to handle and store them. The description should include known or suspected toxicity of the sample, any salts or additives in the solution as well as information about the pathogenicity of the source or recombinant organisms that produced the sample. Specific details regarding forbidden substances are posted on our web site at http://www.nysbc.net/procedures/goh.htm. Most shippers have specific instructions for hazardous shipments which you should scrupulously follow.SHIPPING SAMPLES TO NYSBCSample packages must include a sheet containing the description of the sample and buffer and explicit handling and storage instructions (e.g. temperature, light sensitivity, etc.). Any potential hazards in case of spillage or tube breaks must also be detailed, as on an MSDS. NYSBC recommends FedEx for courier shipments.BEAM LINESamples should be shipped preferably FedEx in dry shipper dewars to the following address: *John A. SHIPPING SAMPLES TO YOUSamples that are to be returned by mail should have appropriate packaging with correct labels and a pre-paid shipping form. Detailed information such as shipping temperature and preferences should also be provided.VENDORSNYSBC presently (May 2008) uses FedEx as its principal shipper. This reflects price considerations, and experience that their followup service (when needed) is excellent. If users desire the use of an alternate, they should EXPLICITY so state, and do so in a recorded fashion like email or fax. NYSBC receives packages from all shippers. For small items ( < ~ 50 lb) delivery can be made AT ANY TIME (but may not be specially handled outside working hours).
